Business Fundamentals- 3 Fundamentals In Business That You Just Can’t Neglect

by- Tom Kubrak

You got a little cocky. You thought you were on top of the world. So… you started to forget about those little things called…

Things started to collapse and your business went through a tough time where you had to dig into the emergency fund to pay your team. Just like those times when you were starting the business, you had to make some sacrifices and you had to eat cheap bread for a few weeks.

Do you want to get back to prospering though? Then let’s get back to the fundamentals and get things running like they should.

A Consistent Quality Product

What do you have to offer to your customers? What’s your number one thing? You ever heard the ancient saying “Jack of All Trades and A Master Of None.”

If you don’t know your number one product then you may have to reevaluate and come up with your number one product that you have to offer people.

If you do know what that is then keep that at the forefront of what you do. Don’t neglect it. It’s great to constantly be innovating and looking at new ideas but sometimes in the process of doing that your main product goes to the back and you forget why you started the business in the first place

Back then it used to be billboards, center square bulletin boards, flyers posted on street poles. Although that stuff is still relevant today the main source of marketing has transitioned with the birth of the internet. After the birth of the internet came the birth of online platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Now that millions of users use it every day it’s become a funnel for marketing. It’s how people know that your business is still open. It’s how people get intrigued to walk through the door to try your food, drink your coffee, buy your product, etc.

With an engaging consistent content strategy you will be able to keep a consistent flow of people. If you use all of the online platforms and physical platforms right you can capture new clientele as well

“Content is king.” -Unknown

1 Day Shut Down

As a new business or seasoned business it’s important to have a day to reevaluation day, adjustment and cleaning day. Going into each week fresh without any worries of the past week is great.

Using this one day to get all of your marketing materials printed out, new announcements all ready to go, product release updates, following up with an opportunity that walked through the door last week, cleaning(it adds up), etc.

If your goal for your brick and mortar is to stay open for a few years, than sure 7 days is fine, but if you’re goal is to last and have a profitable business then a 1 Day Shut Down is mandatory.

Shutting down one day also allows your team members to recharge. If you don’t have a charged up team then they won’t be able to give the business their all. As a business owner it’s also a good time to talk to the team and get their opinion on how they think the business is going and if they noticed anything during the week.

Bonus Fundamental! Accounting/Finances

David Shedd talks about some lessons he learned at The Wharton School. His number one lesson is in proper accounting and managing cash flow. Check his whole post out here on Business Insider.

The Fundamentals- 3 Daily Fundamentals That You Just Can’t Neglect

By- Tom Kubrak

Don’t just try and get by. You only can just get by for so long until you start to crumble.

Your Body

If you want to get past those tough times in your day when you know you need to work but your so tired or those times where you have a meeting with a colleague but you’re just ‘not feeling it’ then…

Working out is a step you can take.

Start implementing daily walking to recharge yourself throughout the day and start a workout routine that will give you the energy to get you through those times during the day where you don’t want to do anything but watch movies and sleep.

Your Mind

Implement a routine that will allow you to think and visualize your day. Sometimes we just are so overwhelmed with what is going on in our lives that we have no idea what to do. Sometimes the answer is within ourselves but the only way to find it is to hang out with yourself.

So… implement a way to be with yourself by starting a visualization or meditation routine.

Educating Yourself

Back in the day when wars were fought with swords and knives a true warrior never went out until he sharpened his blade to cut through his enemies with ease.

Are you a true warrior?

Is your blade sharpened so you can cut through the daily battles and temptations that will arise?

Well… if you’re not educating yourself with a reading plan and listening to podcasts or CD’s then your blade is not sharpened.

Implement a reading plan that will help you improve yourself and your chosen craft.

Bonus Fundamental!

Mark Harrison writes about some fundamentals in his post His first point “Be Proactive” stands out to me because if you’re not proactive your going to miss things and when you miss things you tend to be in a state of worry. Thus, causing you to stop going for the things that you want. Check out the rest of his point in the post!

Education Kill Shot- 3 Strategies On How To Kill Your Bad Habit

by- Tom Kubrak

You’re going to have to do something you don’t want to do to get something you want.

By doing that you can get to the next place in your life that you want to.

Forget about what you did.

Everything that you’re trying to accomplish is right there in front of you but there’s one thing that’s standing in your way… YOURSELF

You can’t seem to give up _____ .(That’s your bad habit)

What Are You Living For?

It’s what you’re currently living for in this world. You’re living for the next burger, drink, smoke, hit, social media post, news story, episode of ____ on Netflix, store to go shopping in, etc.

For ages, people have been working on the perfect way to get rid of whatever is going on in their lives to rid of the bad habit that they have. There’s plenty of examples. Many that are great. People try therapy, exercising, meeting up and talking to someone, hiring a therapist or nutritionist, going to AA(Alcoholics Anonymous) but for some reason it never cures the problem.

Especially for the people without the financial resources, they’re forced to rely on themselves and to many that’s the worst option because we are… our own worst enemies.

The Kill Shot

How do you beat this beast without funneling a ton of money into something that may or may not work?

It’s the oldest trick in the book and before all of these therapies were even careers the only thing that people had was education.

Picking up a book.

BANG BANG BANG(the guns going off after the people are in sheer terror from hearing the news that they have to read again)

Which too many of us haven’t done in years. No matter what reason that is because, it’s time to pick up a book and start educating yourself.

A Reading Plan

Get yourself on a customized reading plan. If you haven’t read in years then start with a few minutes a day. Yes two minutes or even one.

Then work your way up from there. That’s where you need to start to get where you need to go in getting rid of that bad habit.

Try getting a few people together too to read. Not only will you be helping someone else out but you’ll be putting an extra layer of protection on that you stick with this habit.

Self Improvement Books

This is one of the fundamentals of life. Read up on how to improve yourself daily. Just like Michael Jordan never stopped practicing bounce practices. This is something, no matter how good you get, that you just can’t give up.

Constantly educate yourself.

Become An Expert On Your Bad Habit

Educate yourself on whatever bad habit you have.

Figure out why you need to give it up. Not only to give you more peace of mind but for health reasons too.

Become an expert on the topic to educate people who fall into the same trap so they can get out of it quicker.

“But the truth is that, breaking bad habits are highly dependent on the man in the mirror.” – Jacqueline Walker

Sick Dayz- Step 2 In Your Journey To Better Nutrition

By- Katarina Ohnmacht

With the Cold Season approaching(sick daze galore) and the fact that I just got over one last week, I  felt compelled to give you some information to help you with this pesky nuisance.

You know the feeling… scratchy throat, body aches, and that one sneeze that tells all; you’re heading to full blown “Cold Town.” Now, we all know there is no cure for the common cold, but what if there are some things we can add to our daily routines, and a little something extra for when we feel a cold coming on?

The good news: there is! And it doesn’t involve over the counter pills or syrups that taste terrible and are going to knock you out. So, what’s the secret?

Yup, that’s right. Good ol’ shrooms. Now don’t get too excited… you’re not going to be hanging out with Alice down in the rabbit hole if you consume these. But there’s a really good chance you are going to feel better than you ever have before.

The Basics

So, let us start with the basics… what do people always tell you when you feel yourself getting sick or are already sick?

  1. Get plenty of Rest
  2. Antioxidants and Vitamins are a must
  3. Drink lots of Fluids

Okay, so, Kat… tell me exactly how can mushrooms help with getting sick?

Well, mushrooms have enormous amounts of health benefits and there is no way I could cover each detail in a blog post. Additionally, the fungi kingdom still has much to be explored. But what I can give you is a brief overview of the mushrooms that have contributed to my overall health and well being, as well as my go-to shrooms from last week when I was battling a cold.

Favorites for Cold Season:

  1. Chaga (for overall health): The King of Mushrooms, the antioxidant powerhouse
  2. Reishi (for rest and recovery): The Queen of Mushrooms, the chillest fungi you’ve ever met
  3. Honorable Mushie-Mentions:
  4. Cordyceps (for energy): Need a boost? Call cordyceps
  5. Lion’s Mane (for focus): Accentuate the Mane, Concentrate the Brain
  6. Enoki (for joint pain and a tasty addition to any meal): Packed with vitamins and minerals, they are the cutest and sassiest of all
  7. Chaga is overflowing with antioxidants and the perfect thing to help you get through your cold. I double or triple my daily dose of chaga whenever I am trying to cut a cold short.
  8. Reishi is an amazing healer and insanely beneficial for getting adequate rest & recovery. It’s just what you need when you’re feeling down for the count.

Welcome to… The Sick Daze Ritual:

Step One: Hot Shower

Step Two: Chaga Tea

Step Three: Work (if you must, if not, sleep!), Chaga & Reishi Tea

Step Four: Rest & Sleep

Step Five: Chaga & Reishi Tea

Step Six: Rest

Step Seven: Sleep

Step Eight: Repeat!

See a pattern?

Listen To Your Body

The point in all of this information is to listen to your body and give it what it needs! Take a day off if you need to so you can allow your body to recover. Don’t put it through extra stress of working while you’re sick. Our bodies do so much for us that we don’t even realize. When your body is fighting a cold it doesn’t make sense to make its job harder by forcing it to do more while it should be doing less. If you do that, you’ll just stay sick longer. Get your rest, get your antioxidants and vitamins, and hydrate!

Help your body heal… and get shroomin’!

Disclaimer: I am not a mycologist. All research (reading materials and personal experiments) conducted has been done by my own accord. Please be safe and educate yourself on the fungi kingdom.

Adult Babies- 3 Steps To Stop Acting Like A Baby in The Professional World

By- Tom Kubrak

I remember after another injury I got as a young boy, I started to tear up. My father of course inspected the injury quickly and after realizing it was another little scratch grabbed me by the shirt, got down to eye level with me and asked,

“Are you still a baby!?”

Wiping the tears out of my eyes I angrily responded back, “No I’m not a baby?

He simply asked, with that death stare he gave me when he wasn’t satisfied with how I was acting.

“Then why are you acting like one?”

I stared back and didn’t respond. So he continued his stare and stated,

“Babies cry. Men don’t.”

I understood from that moment on that I need to get over things quickly. So, I stopped crying over those little things that happened, but I started crying in a different way. I started to get mad at people and I wasn’t able to let it go. I started to hold grudges against people.

As I continued to grow up though I realized my fathers words didn’t just apply to crying but it applied to my life and my relationships with people. So after a long period of my life of having no idea what to do with it, failing in many endeavors, getting fired from positions, I realized something profound. I told myself,

“I have to move on from my past or I’m never going to make it to my future.”

So I started to call people that I did wrong too. I gave up the fact that the other person might have done something wrong too and took ownership for my actions.

The Importance of Moving On

In order to move on there’s a few things you have to do. The three steps are outlined below. The reason you want to move on is because whether you like it or not this person you keep talking about to your best friend, wife, mom, dad, etc. is on your mind a lot. It’s effecting people whom you have great relationships with and people who you’re trying to start relationships with personally and professionally. If you want to maximize your work and the relationships you have in your life then you need to start making some phone calls and forgiving people.

Yes, it’s easier said than done, but you have to do this personally within yourself first. Forgive the other person.

Realizing that the relationship might not be where it was at before right away, or ever, you still need to step up.

Don’t wait for the other person to call. Be the one to call and make it right. Maybe they won’t forgive you.. who knows! But you will be able to move on in your own life now that you’ve forgiven them.

If they don’t forgive you that doesn’t mean you don’t have to forgive them.

Listen and Compromise

Let’s say you both forgive each other. From there, you have to figure out how to move on in the best way. A lot of times you have to do a little compromising.

Go out for some lunch or a coffee and just talk with each other. Listen to each others point of view and pinpoint what went wrong, what you will do and not do in the future.

If you’re trying to bring back your relationship to the level it was at before, then you must do this or your second try at it will not last long.

Now it’s time to implement the things you both discussed. Take action and change your behavior.

We’ve all made a lot of stupid decisions in our lives. You’ve said a lot of dumb things. You’ve put yourself where you are now because of your own actions. You have no one else to blame but yourself.

Why not get to a better place in your life? Forgive the people who have done you wrong. Or Vice Versa, ask for forgiveness from the people whom you’ve done wrong.

Regardless, the choice is yours. If you want the best for you and your family though…

Make the damn call.

“Just in a professional world, sometimes a phone call is more meaningful than a text.” – Kevin Harvick

Health Before Business- Why You need to Set Your Work Aside and Evaluate Your Health

By- Tom  Kubrak

It’s game time things are about to go down. You have an agenda. Big things are about to happen in your life. It’s so close. Everything you’ve been working so hard to get in your life is right there. You can smell it. You can taste it. It’s within reach. You can’t wait. All you have to do is reach out and take it. There’s just one problem though…

You’re all fucked up.

You’ve been neglecting your health and it’s about to catch up on you in the worst way.

What are you going to do next?

Story Time!

Finally it was time.

“Hey man are you ready?”

“Hell yeah!”

In reality, this was something that he thought was the right answer but knew that something could happen to him at any moment because it had happened before and had totally taken him off of his course. A course that he was riding again, but on a different medium, and enduring an unseen pain for the last few months since leaving another job once attaining all of the information possible from taking advantage of all of the learning opportunities before they became bare.

He had been working through it. He was aware of what was happening to him and  his body but became a newly formed icicle to the possibility of it happening again.

He just kept letting each day go by without addressing it. What was the big deal? I mean if he got through one day, then why couldn’t he get through the next few days, weeks, months, and years. The worst had already came so why would it happen again?

A lunch and a dinner go by without the results

Another morning passed without a workout

Another night passed of giving into the late night munchies.

Another phone call missed times twenty

Another book wasn’t picked up to read and grow.

Another opportunity to introduce yourself to someone that could help you out with your career was missed.

Time went by to no avail. The people kept seeing the smile that was on his face but in reality it was a sour look of happiness. One that hidden underneath the corners of the curled lips, actually meant that he was in sheer terror of what could happen at any moment.

Ignorant he was, to his fate to happen in just a few moments.

Story Time Ch. 2- “The Case”

Terror didn’t show, but in the depths of his case he feared his current path and going all the way back to the bottom that he had just dug far enough to scrape the top of the case revealing a sunlight he had never seen before. The case that he had put himself into on purpose for his mission.

A case that meant more than just “You’re nothing” it meant that if you get out of this case. This stinky, smelly, molded, bug ridden, work haltering, health concerned, case, that you could do anything.

So there he was in this case and allowing the voices inside of it to beat him. To tear him down to the inner depths of the case.

Voices with faceless, body less, seemingly nonexistent to the world, beings. The voices he listened to taught him how to continue to neglect himself to the point of going all the way back to the place he was at five years prior.

This case that others have been in and seen the beauty, but did not see the dark side of it because it was only revealed upon their departure.

A battle waged inside of the case that wasn’t heard from the outside world. If it was the smell of madness would have in-sighted a worldwide riot causing the earth to spin in a new direction.

It was time to leave the case on pursuit of his mission. Everyone who was on his team had been prepping for this day for about a month now. He went but then something traumatic happened to him that nearly took him into a different more volatile case.

A tweak of some sorts came through his body. He had felt this before and knew what he had to do.

He canceled everything for the day causing questions that he could not give the answer to.

Somehow he got back to the case and sent the mission to his team that knew what to do. Embarrassed he was inside. He was the cause. Everything finally caught back up to him and he was back in his case at the same level he was at years before.

The difference now, he knew how to get back and he knew the sacrifices he had to make to bring himself back to where he needed to be. The rebuilding process would be quicker.

If he lost some people in the process,  he had to accept it because he did this to himself. His desire to fight another day was the prevailing factor of his survival that  day that his ego wasn’t able to counter.

He had to face the consequences like a man.

If he didn’t he would be locked in the case forever.

Right there, he made the sacrifices necessary and began to rebuild. To get himself back to where he needed to be.

Just him. That’s where he needed to start because that’s where it was going to end. Everything else in between him and him was also necessary but it had to start with him.

So he began.

Getting Overwhelmed

When you start saying that, “I’m overwhelmed!” to people or that your “knee deep in shit”  then…

You probably are!

Your making “The Secret” which is revealed in the book “The Secret” happen in another way(Go give it a read) that wasn’t intended by the other. You’re not bringing yourself up, you’re bringing yourself down.

Physically Hurting

Recognize when you’re body is beginning to give in. Recognize when you start getting sick  more. Recognize when you’re back starts giving out . Recognize and admit to yourself that you missed the gym the last month. Ask yourselves questions like?

“What is wrong?”

“Where can I seek help”

“What’s one thing that I can do to help myself out?”

Mentally Hurting

It’s not just outside but inside you are starting to lose it. So many tasks are beginning to pile up. So many things that you committed to are just not getting done.

Ask yourself questions like…

“Do I need to take a break?”

“Do I need to take a day off to reassess?”

“Do I need to push some projects aside while I finish the main ones?”

“What needs to get done first?”

“Do I need to set a daily to-do list?”

“Am I overextending myself?”

“What can I do differently that will help me think clearly?”

“Where can I seek help?”

Keep Plugging Away… In A different Way

If we could just drop everything and go on a vacation that would be great but in reality we can’t do that. We have too many bills to pay and too many responsibilities.

So you have to keep plugging away and working but there is something you can do.

Create a new strategy and dig yourself out of the mess your in.

Put Yourself #1

At the end of the day, realizing that you can’t help anyone if there isn’t a you is powerful. So why do we keep neglecting ourselves?

Check out Herbert Lui’s post on some strategies on how to put yourself first here

Point number two stands out the most to me. I picked up a book on my bookshelf that I got at a garage sale a while back and just started reading it. It was about a writer and those first few pages made a great impact on me. I believe it’s a great idea to read biographies about people in your chosen craft.

Collaboration- The Benefits of Collaborating With Other Business’ & People

By- Tom Kubrak

Someone just approached you. They have an idea that could help you both out. You’re next response will make or break this potential collaboration. But the question is should you even care? I mean, you’re business is already doing pretty good. Why should you let this person talk to you? Who even are they?

It’s simply an opportunity. It could take your business to a whole different level. That’s if you welcome it. Treat the person with respect and allow them to say their peace.

Stay Open Minded

While starting this relationship just listen and welcome the new ideas. At the end of the day it may not be the best thing but maybe you could help another business out by sharing the idea with someone you know.

Take your time

All great things take time. Don’t rush  it. As a business’ owner it’s easy to only think about the money but concentrate on establishing a relationship with your potential partner so if that idea doesn’t work out you can still work with each other. Plus so you can just talk.

Don’t make enemies with people that have the best intentions for you.
