The Benefits of Saying No- And What It Could Lead To For You if You Do and Don’t

It’s not just to the people you have to say no to. You have to learn to Say No to those little temptations in your life that are taking you away from where you should be putting your time and energy into.

For example…

  1. Staying up until the wee hours of the morning knowing that you’re going to be tired the next morning and not have enough energy at work.
  2. Going to that party that you know is going to be trouble and might lead to something bad. 
  3. Cheating on a test just to get a passing grade
  4. Lieing to your friends, spouse, or parents thinking your going to get away with it.
  5. Digging into some junk food when you have a goal of losing weight

These are in the moment things that feel good for the short time we do it and then we experience the negative effects after it.

We usually get a warning before we do these things and a brief few seconds to make our decision whether to do the right thing or the wrong thing.

At the end of the day you have to figure out what you want and say no to the things that are stopping you from getting it.

In Leo Babauta’s post “The Gentle Art of Saying No” he uses 10 strategies to help you out with truly understanding the value of your time. He also points out that if we don’t learn to say no and we keep on taking on too many commitments then we can never be productive. Check it out here

Saying No to a Friend or Colleague

In Sonya Hamlin’s post about this she explains how when you “Say No” to find a way where you can both win by telling the truth about why you can’t do it to avoid saying yes and saying “What a wuss I was.”  Check it out here
