When you have something on your mind, an unanswered question, or a thought you just need to write down, you have to act on that in some way shape or form or it will start to drag you down. For me, it was something else.
It was Wednesday. I had a great day of work. I got almost everything I needed done. “I was on fire,” as they say.
There was something I forgot about though… the mistakes I made early on in the week. Early on in the week I decided to slack off resulting in some consequences I had put in place for myself beforehand.
The 1st: I fell asleep at my desk.
The 2nd: I over indulged myself… twice, by eating too much.
The 3rd: I overslept my alarm for my 15min nap.
The first one resulted in 50 lunges but the 2nd two resulted in lunges down my street three times. It was a decent distance down my street so I thought about splitting my consequence up into 3 days. One Wednesday, and then the rest on Thursday. Instead, I decided to push myself and see what I was made of. I did three sets of Lunges, after my work was done for the day, up and down my street and then back one more time.
I ran into a few people I knew in the neighborhood while I was serving this consequence. One person I ran into was Maria, who I wrote about in an earlier post, Intalked to her for a few minutes before she headed off to work. I then met a man named Herbie who was extremely friendly, and then I ran into my neighbors, Ray and Vinny, on the second lap.
On the third and final lap I ran into a new face.
While I was about halfway done with my last lap, I heard an unfamiliar voice come from behind me saying, “Hey are you working out man?” I continued to do my lunges at the same pace. I mean.. I was almost done, but I decided to reply back, “Yeah I am.” He continued to talk while I went along to finish my lunges.
But something stopped me as I was still moving forward. I thought to myself, “This guy definitely wants to talk to me and who am I to shut him off just because I was physically drained from doing over a thousand lunges and wanted to get inside to cool off.
So I made the decision and I made it quickly. I stopped, just as he was starting to walk away seeing that I wasn’t interested anymore, and I said, “Hey so do you live around here?”
“Yeah, I live a few buildings over.”
“That’s awesome! I live here too.”
From there it was history. I took my mind away from my consequence and the rest of the agenda for the night. I was immersed in listening to this guy. We didn’t talk for a long time because we both sensed we had things to do I feel. I told him about my company and he told me how he started a company a few years ago focusing on Nutrition.
Side Note: That was probably why he was so intrigued about what I was doing and why. He was into another side of the fitness industry.
Well I’m glad I stopped because we decided to exchange cards and we scheduled a time to meet up right there where we were standing.
“It was a pleasure meeting you and I’m looking forward to talking with you some more,” I told him.
“Same here, see you soon.” He responded.
From there we departed. He went back to his place and I finished my consequence.
“This wasn’t supposed to be a good experience I told myself.”
Before finishing I looked down at my watch to check the time. The whole ordeal costed me about 7 minutes.
There’s a new possibility. Who knows what will come of it, but I’m excited to find out.
